It all started with a lucky thrift find - a poster of the now ubiquitous "Keep Calm and Carry On" British propaganda that was never ultimately used. I knew I had to have it on the wall of my new home and this blog was conceived.

The Debut

Hello and welcome to Keep Calm or Carry On aka The Red Telephone. A blog I created to share with others my love for travel, food, home design and all things inspiring.

Last year, I was searching painstakingly for a new home in Toronto. I had been living on campus for almost two years and going downtown or anywhere remotely "happening" required at least an hour's worth of transit for me. I've always loved the idea of living in the city (I tergiversate between living in the city and living by the beach - the latter is somewhat fulfilled by the fact that I hail from Singapore, a tiny thriving tropical island) and to be surrounded by infinite sights and sounds. And so the search began - to find a new home, for me and my 1 and a half year old golden retriever puppy Simba. I must have viewed over 25 apartments over the span of 3-4 months. I was introduced to many different neighbourhoods by my bf, who acted as my non-official real estate agent, and deliberated agonizingly over price, location and size.

Finally, I fell in love with a petite apartment right smack within the St Lawrence neighbourhood and was sold. Two months before the big move, my bf and I chanced upon a Keep Calm and Carry On poster and we both agreed it would look amazing in the den (a small room to be used as office space). It was our first buy towards the burgeoning idea of a british pop theme for our office space.

And then I became obsessed with red vintage telephones (I just thought it would look nice in our new home) and scoured the weekly St Lawrence antique fairs for one to no avail. Then yesterday, my bf pulled a bunny out of his hat and brought home an old red telephone that he had had since he was a child from his mom's house. I kicked my tacky ihome out of the kitchen and quickly replaced it with my new gorgeous telephone.

Since we've moved into this bustling neighbourhood, we've been through some trials and tribulations (in terms of home design). We've scoured countless places for affordable and functional pieces and moved, replaced and shifted numerous items around the apartment to different results. We even went "couch-less" for a month and were without a dining table and chairs for two.

It's been such an exciting but arduous journey searching for the perfect home. My work isn't done and I doubt it will ever be - and that is the beauty of it. But I thought I'd take you on our travels and wanderings, our purchases and loves, our successes and travails on all things good in this world.
